With six of its eleven square miles running along Lake Washington's
shorelines, Kirkland is a pedestrian-friendly, artistic, waterfront
community that is known for its art galleries, specialty shops and restaurants.
Often called a little Sausalito, Kirkland is a great escape from the
larger cities of Washington, without losing any of the conveniences.
Shopping is at its finest in downtown. Stroll through the eclectic variety
of quaint boutiques and galleries before stopping at a waterfront café
for lunch.
Kirkland
has preserved 25 percent of its waterfront for public use. Home to 33
city, county, and state parks, many with a waterfront view, Kirkland
is rich with year round outdoor activity opportunity. Houghton Beach
Park is a popular destination for people of all ages. Located on Lake
Washington, over half a dozen picnic tables reside on the lush hillside
about the beach. The park includes a 75-foot dock, a huge wooden raft,
sand volleyball court, and playground. The park also offers a lovely
view of Seattle.
